| •DR. MAE WASSON |
| Dr. Mae Wasson was born in Statesville, NC in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. She was named Mary Margaret, but was soon nicknamed “Mae” by her slightly older sister Lou. According to her mother Ruby, Mae wanted to be a veterinarian from the time she first learned to talk. She attended UNC-CH and graduated summa cum laude from NCSU with a BS in Zoology. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State University in 1984. While on spring break in the Keys, she fell in love with the blue water and her future husband Mark. She moved to the Keys permanently in 1987. She worked with Dr. Bob Foley at the Upper Keys Veterinary Clinic for many years and became acquainted with Alan Litman and ORCAT at that time. The rest is history! ORCAT grew and evolved into the wonderful facility it is today, and “Dr. Mae” just keeps saying to everyone she meets that she has the best job in the world. |
| •SUSAN |
| Susan was born in Philadelphia and grew up in New Jersey. Her first baby picture was of her propped up next to the family cat, Samantha. She wanted to work at a veterinary clinic from the time she was young. At the age of 16, Susan started working for a veterinary clinic. She attended Ramapo Community College in New Jersey. After college, she relocated to the Jersey Shore, and fell in love with the water. She had the opportunity to cruise the Intercoastal waterway several times before settling in the Keys. While working at the Upper Keys Veterinary Clinic in 1995, she met Alan Litman and was enthusiastic about his work with the cats at Ocean Reef. When he asked her if she would be interested in running it, she never looked back. |
| •LEEANNE |
LeeAnne was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She graduated from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, earning a degree in Ecology/Field Biology. After graduation, she came to the Florida Keys to complete an avian rehabilitation internship with the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center in Tavernier. She loved the warm weather so much that she decided to move to the Keys permanently. |
| •ANNETTE |
Annette was born in Miami and grew up in Ft. Lauderdale. She comes from a large family of 7 girls. Annette went to school in Ashland, OR. Most Ocean Reef members recognize Annette from the golf course, where she worked for four years on the beverage cart. Annette has been with ORCAT/Grayvik Animal Care Center as a vet tech for 3 years. |
| •PAULA |
Paula was born in Tucson, AZ, but she grew up in paradise because her family moved to the Keys when she was 1 year old. She attended Coral Shores High School. She loves working at Grayvik Animal Care Center because she can make a difference in the lives of animals every day. Even the most shy of ORCATS love Paula because of her gentle, caring nature. In her spare time, Paula enjoys boating, fishing, roller blading, and cooking. |
| •DEBBIE SANTOS |
Debbie Santos was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. She attended the Minnesota School of Dog Grooming. She has always loved animals and currently has 4 chihuahuas. She moved to the Keys in 1981, and has owned her own pet grooming business for many years. Debbie's hobbies include kayaking, paddle boarding, and cooking. |
